Save the Date: NBI 20th Anniversary

October 1-6, 2024

We are excited to share that the Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative (NBI) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year!  To mark the occasion, we are planning a week of events to honor our past, further our current mission, and present plans for our future.

We wanted to give everyone that has been involved with NBI – both past and present participants – a “heads up” so that you can save the date and join us if you are able!

From Tuesday October 1st through Sunday October 6th, we plan to hold a series of bioblitz-type events on Nantucket that will be organized and led by our various NBI member organizations. While the specifics are still coming together, we will kick the week off by hosting a public workshop on the use of iNaturalist as a tool for documenting biodiversity, followed by numerous daily field trips across the island aimed at documenting plant and animal species at key biodiversity hotspots. Evening social gatherings are planned to share and report results. There will be a public evening presentation about NBI and its past, present and future endeavors at the Nantucket Atheneum on the evening of Friday, October 4th.

We would love to have you join in any or all these events to help us celebrate this milestone occasion, especially if you are someone that was involved in NBI as part of our formation or past programming! Please mark your calendars.

We will be posting more information on this page as plans come together.
